Who can apply to the fund?
Applicants must be based in Thailand. The criteria for selecting the projects we fund are listed below, although exactly what is funded depends on the proposals that are submitted to the committee. Project funding criteria are as follows:
- The fund is aimed as supporting small-scale grassroots projects in Thailand.
- We seek to ensure the sustainability of funded activities, and would rather fund these than one-off projects
- We will support projects receiving funding from other sources.
- We encourage proposals generated by and benefiting communities.
- We encourage proposals based on shared decision making.
- We require an assessment of the project’s impacts on gender relations.
- We require an assessment of the project’s impacts on the environment.
- We can support activities outside of Thailand (such as Burmese related issues).
- We expect a contribution in kind or in cash from beneficiaries.
- We will contribute to the same organisation on more than one occasion, but not for the same project.
There are a few restrictions:
- Our maximum grant is 20,000 Baht (around 450 euro).
- We cannot fund activities to be carried out by government agencies, although we will fund activities that take place on government premises, or officials acting in a private capacity.
- We cannot pay regular salaries or ongoing office costs.
- We cannot fund activities that benefit individuals (eg scholarships), but may support training for an individual that will then train others.
- We cannot fund charity activities where beneficiaries only receive goods or services (this is because there are many other donors who are happier supporting this kind of activity, and our fund can be reserved to encourage sustainable development activities by community groups).
