Case Study
In May 2004 villagers in Pa Khu Lang asked for assistance for their community rice bank initiative; which was to construct a rice bank and purchase 200 buckets of rice grain. Each year villagers can borrow rice grain at the start of the planting season if needed and replace it after harvest.
Project Outcomes and Impacts
- Two granaries were constructed in Pa Khu Lang and Pa Paak villages.
- Additional funds of 40,500 baht were found to support the villages.
- The villagers can now relieve or overcome food shortages during the cultivating season. They do not have to leave the village for other employment, enabling them to concentrate on their fields.
- The villagers gained experience of managing a project and its finances.
